The North Carolina Tarheels made their way to the Carrier Dome to take on the Syracuse Orange and it was yet another barn burning ACC matchup that saw Syracuse erase a late three-goal deficit on their way to dropping UNC in overtime by a score of 13-12.

North Carolina took a 12-9 lead with 7:22 left in the game on an Alex Trippi unassisted goal that felt like a dagger despite there still being plenty of time on the clock for a prototypical Syracuse miracle…

Enter Brendan Curry. Curry, a freshman, scored an unassisted goal with 1:34 left in the game to get the Cuse to within one. This coming after Strephen Rehfuss had closed the gap to two goals with 4:26 left.

Danny Varello then won the ensuing faceoff, Curry got another shot to dodge, this time scoring the goal that notted it all up 12-12 with 48 seconds left on the clock to force overtime.

Varello won the opening faceoff of the OT period (there was a trend developing towards games end with Varello playing tough) and after a time out…you guessed it, Brendan Curry beat his man from behind and found a streaking Brendan Bomberry on the crease for the game-winner in overtime.

Alex Trippi finished the game with 2 goals and an assist for UNC. Nate Solomon led Cuse with 4 goals on the day, followed up by Brendan Curry and Brendan Bomberry who each contributed 2 goals and an assist.
