It was a sunny St. Patrick’s Day in South Bend as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish hosted the Virginia Cavaliers in what proved to be a very exciting game, but Notre Dame prevailed thanks to Mikey Wynne and Brendan Gleason, no Luck ‘O The Irish needed.

The Irish jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, the 2nd and 3rd goals coming from Mikey Wynne early in the 1st quarter. But Wynne then handed the proverbial “keys to the game” to Michael Kraus who went on to score 4 consecutive goals over the games next 11 minutes to not the game back up at 4 all.

Brendan Gleason and Bryan Costabile tallied goals to round out the half giving Notre Dame a 6-4 halftime advantage.

Virginia would not go away though as Dox Aitken, one of the best young mids in the country, put up back to back goals to start the 3rd quarter evening things out yet again, and then Mike D’Amario gave the Cavs their first lead of the game with 2:52 remaining in the 3rd.

ENTER MIKEY WYNNE, who tallied a goal within the first 52 seconds of the 4th to tie things back up at 7’s, and he scored the eventual game winner with 12:20 remaining in the 4th. Brendan Gleason sealed it with 53 seconds left in the contest after beating Virginia’s attempt to double-team him and cause a turnover. Game Over, The Irish win out.
