Princeton had been riding a 2 game winning streak after dropping 2 of their first 3 and had to be feeling pretty good….and then Penn came to town to start off Ivy League play, and things got ugly as Penn dropped Princeton 14-7.

Tyler Dunn got it done putting up 5 goals in the Quaker romp of the Tigers and Simon Mathias wore his big boy pants and bulled a couple of the kitties out of his way on his way to a hatrick. Penn goaltender Reed Junkin played an incredible game making 20 saves on 27 shots faced for a save percentage of 74%. That was the big difference in the game. On the other end, Tyler Blaisdell had a miserable outing making only 8 saves on 22 shots faced.

Another big story is how Penn managed to keep Michael Sowers quiet, holding him to just 3 assists. Not a terrible stat line, but Sowers being Sowers, that’s a great effort from Penn. They did the same thing to Justin Guterding in their win over Duke earlier in the season, so the Penn defense deserves some credit.

Riley Thompson put up 2 goals and 2 assists for the Tigers and Austin Sims kept his hot hand….hot….by putting up 2 goals and an assist in the loss.
