Navy came into the Carrier Dome and stunned the Orange by scoring two goals within the last 9 seconds of the game, the game-winner scored by Joe Varello off of a face-off win over his younger brother Danny Varello of Syracuse.
It was Varello vs. Varello at the face-off X all day, and older brother Joe came away with the game winning goal and the huge win in his senior season.
Tucker Dordevic scored with 58 seconds left to give Syracuse the leas 13-12, and it seemed the game. but Jack Ryan scored for Navy with 9 seconds left after a Tucker Dordevic turnover as Syracuse tried to run out the clock.
Off the ensuing faceoff, Joe Varello beat his younger brother, went to the goal, picked up a ground ball off a missed pass and stuck the game winner.
Jack Ray was too much for Syracuse to handle all day putting up 4 goals and 2 assists for the Midshipmen. Greyson Torain scored a hatrick.
Stephen Rehfuss had a career day putting up a goal with 7 helpers on the day and teammate Nate Solomon continued to play well scoring 2 goals and 2 assists in the loss. Brendan Bomberry had a hatrick also.
